Every year, Kékvonal receives over 25,000 calls on its helpline, where young people can
receive emotional support and assistance in times of distress.
Established 30 years ago, the Kékvonal Child Crisis Foundation operates the only
dedicated helpline service in the country for children and young people under 24, as
well as for adults concerned about them. Their service is available 24/7, free of
charge, and is completely anonymous. They believe that shared pain hurts less, spoken
secrets weigh less, and listening, attention, and emotional support empower individuals,
motivating them to seek help and accept it when it’s given to them. This is why they
converse with young people and even arrange for their direct assistance if they are
believed to be in danger. Kékvonal’s trained operators await the inquiries of young
people and concerned adults at the 116-111 telephone number, as well as via email or
chat. On average, 5 children contact them every day about being victims of abuse, and at
least 3 children call Kékvonal every day because they fear they might hurt themselves.
The Foundation's staff receive and handle over 20,000 inquiries annually, as well as
handle life-threatening crises monthly with the involvement of the police and emergency
services.
In addition to mental support services, Kékvonal-organized training sessions for
professionals and parents aim to prevent adolescent suicide and abuse, as well as
support children's mental health.
Support from the Biggeorge Foundation for Chance is crucial to the long-term
sustainability and increased awareness of Kékvonal’s hotline services, thus helping even
more young people receive genuine attention, acceptance, and support for change, as well
as assistance in their times of trouble.
