The Liget Műhely Foundation’s intellectual workshop is responsible for the creation of
the online Liget journal and the paper-based Szitakötő children's journal. The
Foundation’s diverse activities include free teacher education sessions, children's
activities, internship programs, and mentoring for novice creators.
The continuous support from the Biggeorge Foundation helps ensure that Liget's
public service work can be pre-planned and that it can provide high-quality and
visually appealing materials for readers ranging from elementary school students to
university professors.
Since Liget is not an employer organization and thus does not have employees or maintain
a dedicated office, all contributions are spent on developing Hungarian culture and
education at large: this means compensating authors and contributors, printing, image
licensing, and providing IT infrastructure. Annually, we announce seven creative
contests for adults and four for children, both receiving entries from around the world
- all the professional and administrative work related to these events is funded by the
Biggeorge Foundation as well. Liget pays special attention to providing equal
opportunities: our website is accessible to the visually impaired, we provide free
downloads for publications, supplementary materials, and audio files, and we regularly
support libraries in disadvantaged areas (and the civil organizations working there)
with our publications.
The background for this work is provided by the Biggeorge Foundation.
